Shank, Don’t Starve, and Mark of the Ninja developer Klei Entertainment has announced that Griftlands, the studio’s deck-building roguelike, will be coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC, next week. Set within the sci-fi world of Havaria, the game tasks you with making vital decision, including your choice of job, friends you make, and cards you collect.
As in any roguelike, death can come pretty swiftly if you’re not careful, each run presenting a chance to experiment with new strategies in new scenarios. Playing as Sal, Rook, or Smith, each with their own unique campaigns and specialised decks, abilities, and maps, you can explore a variety of locations, align with different factions, and follow your chosen character’s agenda.
Sal desires profit and revenge, Rook is an ageing spy with a mission, and Smith is an “idle loafer” who could apparently end up saving the world. Whichever character you choose, you’ll have tough bosses to take on, enemies with their own mechanics and attacks to overcome, and hundreds of cards to collect.
You can betray others, play politics, or forge lasting alliances, but your decisions may come back to haunt you. You can build two decks at once, balancing them to your advantage, with each playthrough combining different foes, quests, and events. Griftlands will be available for Xbox One, PS4, Switch, and PC on 4th June – check out the latest trailer below.
